Hospitality New Zealand responds to Industry Skills Board consultation

Hospitality New Zealand has submitted feedback to the Tertiary Education Commission on the proposed coverage and structure of the new Industry Skills Boards (ISBs). While we support industry representation in vocational education, we have raised concerns about the viability of niche sectors like hospitality, the short transition timeline, and lack of clarity around governance, funding, and operational processes.

We have recommended a full review of compliance and cost structures, and called for stronger transparency and industry input—particularly regarding levy-setting and the future of providers like ServiceIQ. We’ve also proposed an integrated ISB model that reflects the interconnected nature of the Hospitality, Tourism, Quick Service Restaurant, Aviation, and Gaming sectors.
