Strengthening New Zealand's Service sector workforce
ISBs are being established for and with industry
Through their industry connections, the ISBs will ensure training is aligned with the evolving needs of businesses, employers, and the New Zealand economy.
What ISBs do
The ISBs, which replace the former Workforce Development Councils, set standards, shape qualifications, endorse programmes, and ensure vocational training stays aligned with employer expectations and workforce needs. We are responsible for:
- Developing, setting and maintaining standards to ensure qualifications align with current and future workforce requirements.
- Endorsing vocational programmes and moderating assessments to guarantee quality and consistency.
- Strategic workforce analysis to enable sector planning, future-proof the workforce and strengthen industry collaboration.
- Advising the TEC on funding priorities and workforce development strategies.
- Overseeing work-based learning during the transitional period and ensuring continuity and quality for learners and employers.
